Rs41b spent on flood evacuees: Marri

Karachi: Sindh Information Minister Shazia Marri on Monday said that according to the reconciled figures, approximately 500 people were killed while 8.9 million people and more than 6 million acres of land were affected by the flood of last year.
Moreover, 2 million crops and 1, 16, 529 livestock were destroyed during the devastating rain of the erstwhile year. Sindh Government was forced to allocate Rs41 Billion additional amount to manage the devastation caused by floods on two consecutive years.
She was speaking to the media after the cabinet meeting at Sindh Secretariat. Sindh Minister for Women Development Tauqir Fatima Bhutto was also present during the occasion.
Talking about the domestic violence bill, she said that the Chief Minister Sindh has directed that the bill must be moved to the Sindh Assembly as soon as possible. She said that accommodation for government officials from Baluchistan had existed which was also discussed during the cabinet meeting. Two options were considered including the handing over of Baluchistan House in Shireen Jinnah Colony or a land area or building be given on suitable location.
Tauqir Fatima Bhutto, on this occasion, said that bill against violence on women were put forward in the assembly earlier also but they could not be controlled. She hoped that the bill would eliminate the evil practices and trends from our society which were not religious or cultural.
